Only with the onset of my twenties have I started to master hair. Once upon a time, this gal stuck with a straightener and a curling iron, both only used as intended, because nothing else I did with my hair looked even remotely good. On the top of the not-even-gonna-try-it list was putting this mass of thick hair in any sort of up-do. If feeling lazy, I would occasionally put it in a bun, or a plain braid. Neither of which were very flattering.
Having a round face makes it difficult to wear an up-do without exacerbating the shape, y'know? I've tried doing a french braid more times than I can count. I've tried what feels like every online tutorial. This includes one that recommended laying upside down over the side of your bed.
It didn't work.
Being so inept at doing anything other than the basics, it seemed best to let it go. Condemned to a life without up-dos. However! While going through a G+ Spark the other day, a bright and shiny beacon arose from the depths of ad spam pages.
A Youtube video on how to do a fishtail braid. Interesting.
Not once had I considered trying a fishtail braid after the debacle with the french braid, but I watched the video anyway. It was short, figured I might as well give it a go. And I mastered the fishtail braid in about, well, four minutes. Then, proud as ever, I wore it for three days straight and ate up all the compliments like I had done something truly spectacular. After, I'd steer them in the direction of Youtube, so they could give it a go. As I'm going to do for you!
Up next? French braid, baby!
Round two, fight!
